Janice Boddy
Janice Boddy is the author of Wombs and Alien Spirits, Women, Men and the Zar Cult in Northern Sudan; Civilizing Women: British Crusades in Colonial Sudan; and co-author of Aman, the Story of a Somali Girl. She continues to do archival research on colonial period Sudan as well as anthropological fieldwork with northern Sudanese, now focusing on social, cultural, and religious change. An article on the latter work, “Spirits and Selves Revisited,” appears in the Companion to the Anthropology of Religion (2013) that she co-edited with Michael Lambek.
