Deborah James

Deborah James is writing a book about indebtedness and aspiration in South Africa, based on fieldwork she did (as part of a bigger ESRC project) in 2008 - 2009. The book is provisionally entitled Money from nothing: popular economies and indebtedness in South Africa. She is planning future collaborative research on the anthropology of ‘advice’.
